Special Education, University Certificate
Certification Preparation Programs
These are programs of study which do not lead to a degree but instead prepare the student for professional certification by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board. EPSB certification requires successful completion of the required Praxis exam(s).
Program Learning Outcomes
- PLLO #1: As a result of participating in the Special Education program, students will synthesize relevant and significant teaching concepts from theory, best practice, and standards in order to construct and support explanations, conclusions, or arguments related to specific content area.
Tag(s): Knowledge - PLLO #2: As a result of participating in the Special Education program, students will demonstrate the ability to engage stakeholders in analyzing student assessment results, developing learning goals, and planning subsequent learning activities.

Admission Requirements
Admission requirements: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale; or a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on the last 30 hours of credit completed, including undergraduate and graduate coursework and teaching certification. Candidate must have approved prerequisites that demonstrate Foundations of Reading/Language Arts (Equivalent to ELE 820 or EMS 874) and Mathematical Concepts (equivalent to ELE 822).
EPSB certification requires successful completion of Praxis.
