Environmental Education, University Certificate

The Environmental Education Certificate at Eastern Kentucky University is a 12-hour university certificate that prepares students to design, deliver, and assess environmental education experiences across formal and non-formal settings. Nationally accredited by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), the program emphasizes environmental literacy, sustainability, and student-centered teaching strategies. Through interdisciplinary coursework and field-based learning, students explore environmental issues, develop skills in curriculum design, and engage in applied practice. The certificate is ideal for students pursuing a diversity of careers, including education, natural resources, recreation, and related fields, and complements a variety of majors including biology, geosciences, education, and recreation and park administration.

The Environmental Education Certificate does not lead to teacher certification or to a professional teaching license, although some of these courses can be used towards licensure.
